On Sunday May 20, 2012, there was an Annular Eclipse. In Northern California and other parts of the US a full ‘ring of fire’ could be seen as the moon passed in front of the sun. In Southern California, it appeared as more of a ‘partial eclipse’. These were taken from the car as we were heading to dinner in Dana Point. Although I was initially excited to be able to get some pictures from the coast, the marine layer was too think and completely blocked out the sun/ sunset.
Apparently, the last time we saw one of these in Souther California was in 1994. I actually remember standing outside with my 4th grade class, looking up at the sun via the pinhole viewing box/ camera that we made for the occasion.
